Class 7

Welcome to Year 6 at Whitecotes Primary Academy with Mrs Crease and 26 pupils. We are also very lucky to have Mrs Preston in class on Tuesday afternoon and Mrs Preston and Miss Bonsall in class on a Friday afternoon. Our PE specialist, Mr Rich, will teach the class on Monday afternoon.

We are now in our final Summer 2 half term. This half term our focus is 'Seasons of Splendour'.

Our Classroom

Things to Remember:

  • Monday and Thursday - Y6 PE, all children will need their PE kits in school.

Expectations in Y6

Y6 will have weekly year group spellings, which will be tested on Friday. Please ensure your child is practising their times tables at home to develop their fluency. See the link below to access some fantastic games. Times tables are crucial for Y6. As well as this, they will have homework given in their homework book when necessary. This may be English or Maths and it will be given on varied days depending on the children's learning.

PE is a statutory requirement. Y6 PE is currently every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. All children are expected to have the correct school PE kit each week; navy blue shorts, navy blue jogging bottoms, white tshirt, pumps or trainers. Unless it is raining, snowing, extremely windy or frosty, Y6 PE will take place outside, so children will need to bring appropriate clothing, i.e. a jumper (without a hood) if it is cold and trainers if it is wet. Children must not come to school with jewellery on i.e. necklaces, bracelets etc. and if children wear earrings, they must be able to take them out for PE. Children with long hair also need to tie their hair back for PE.

Reading at Home

Children are expected to read frequently at home. They should read independently, as well as having the opportunity to read to/with their adult. Children in Y6 need to increase their reading pace and practice will develop this.

Pen Licence

We will be reviewing the Y6 pen licences this year.  We will only be giving pen licences to the children who are fluently joining their writing and are forming their letters accurately. Any writing your child does at home, please encourage them to write joined up. Children will learn to select the correct writing equipment for each task. For example, a pencil for draft writing.
